Life can be hard. We may find ourselves face to face with many difficult situations where we need to be able to make tough decisions. Sometimes, we just need to talk it out and vent. Other times, we have wonderful things happening in our lives but may still feel dragged down from everyday life. We may find ourselves struggling maintaining our personal and professional life. For kids, we may find that it's tough transitioning between home and school. I work with individuals of all ages and stages. Sessions will be tailored to the individual's needs and treatment goals. Each client is unique. We'll build on your innate strengths and implement growth to best address your needs. Common issues addressed are stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, confidence and self-esteem.
Let's be honest, we learn how to co-exist and act in a relationship whether with friends or a significant other, by what we observed growing up. Then, we carry our ideas of what relationships and roles should be into adulthood. So does the other person. These preexisting expectations can be a real let down while trying to work through situations. Therapy can help each of you get to know yourselves and understand each other better. Together, we can get to the bottom of the "why we are the way we are", and it can be eye opening. Sessions can be beneficial to all couples. Therapy at any stage in your relationship can create a stronger emotional bond; can promote better intimacy, decrease conflict, improve communication and build skills for long-term success. This can also be beneficial and is recommended during life transitions such as a new baby, an engagement, a career change or moving. Common issues addressed are trust, infidelity, finances, commitment, stress and co-parenting.
Being in a family can be tough. There are many personalities and views, and you may not find yourself being aligned with them. Family dynamics can be a lot. Where do we fit in the family? Did something happen that changed things? Did we upset someone because of our boundaries? We may find ourselves not getting along with members of our family for whatever reason and finding ourselves with too many barriers to get passed. This may be due to a miscommunication. Making communication tough in these situations. This can be biological family, in-laws, extended family, or foster and adoptive families. Sessions can be with however many family members are interested to modify cycles and improve communication. Sometimes individual therapy with children may turn into family therapy to best assist caregivers in understanding the "why" behind the behaviors and how to best address them. Common issues addressed are separation, divorce, trauma, behavioral patterns, ADHD, caring for elderly family members, grief and loss.
I work with children as young as 4 and all the way up to 18 in this area. It's important to provide a foundation to children early on so that they can grow up becoming the best version of themselves. Therapy is beneficial at these ages for learning communication skills and learning to know how to develop healthy and positive relationships. Kids can feel a lot of pressure to please the adults in their lives. They may struggle with making friends and the maintenance of keeping friends. Common issues addressed are social pressures, body issues, dealing with divorce, adding a new member to the family, being distracted at home and at school and behavioral issues.
I work with young adults, both male and female from ages 18 to mid-20's. During this stage of life, there's a lot going on. These chapters can have many highs and lows: exciting beginnings, entering either college or the workforce, moving away from your family or starting fresh in another town. This stage of life also comes with many difficult transitions that can impact us forever; grief and loss of loved ones or friends, finding yourself and creating your future, and letting go of childhood trauma that is lingering and holding you back. You may be starting a family, a new relationship and finding new groups of friends. It's nice to have a sounding board and someone to just listen and be there to support you through this phase of life. I'm here to do just that.
The struggle is real. Being a parent changes your whole life. Both you and your child are learning and growing. You may find yourself getting stuck in the cycle of being the default parent and be unsure how to change that. You may find yourself yearning for what life was like before being a parent. You may feel like you don't know who you are anymore. You may feel unsure of your new role and as if you don't know what you're doing. The good news is that this is normal and common and isn't a reflection of the love you have for your child. On the flip side, you may also be contemplating whether or not you want to be a parent, struggling with being able to have children or becoming a mom/dad. Common issues addressed are family dynamics, infertility, pregnancy related trauma, unhealthy patterns, tantrums, breaking generational cycles and stressors from the pandemic.
Women have many roles and responsibilities in life. Women are notorious for having a lot on their plate at all times. Do you find yourself thinking you can do it all and being unable to delegate tasks when needed?Whether you're navigating relationships, friendships, professional life, future ambitions and expectations of self, motherhood, being a sister or aunt, keeping up with household duties and getting to where you need to be on time; it's a lot! I work with women of all ages and stages of life. Common issues addressed are workplace/career life, confidence + body image, fertility concerns, medical stressors, obsessive thinking, compulsive behaviors and goal planning.
Do you feel nervous and fearful to the point it's disruptive to everyday life? Anxiety can cause uncomfortable feelings of helplessness, fear and doom and can manifest into physical symptoms. Do you have feelings of sadness, despair and irritability? You may find yourself feeling a loss of pleasure. Depression can disrupt your life and cause negative implications on your well-being. Depression and Anxiety can cause some of the worst emotions that we can experience in our lives and bring us down. Through counseling and treatment, I'll help you recover motivation, perspective and happiness that has been impacted by these feelings.
Avoidance, anxiety, fear, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post-traumatic events. In working through PTSD and trauma, it's important to learn how to navigate remembering without reliving the event. The event can be a single event or multiple events. You may feel hopeless, depressed, disconnected or disassociated from your friends and family. You may feel high anxiety and fearfulness; even when you're safe. Some experience sleeping issues, intrusive thoughts and flashbacks.
I do offer group therapy that is anywhere from 5-10 people going through similar things. Due to the nature of the group setting, we expect everyone to be respectful and keep things confidential that are discussed in this safe space. This is a support group and it's important to keep it a safe space. Topics vary and I'm open to suggestions if there's a topic that you're interested in.
